Firmness is a relationship between your body and the mattress, not a score that can declare one surface universally better than another.
Side sleepers usually ask more of the shoulder and hip zones. Back sleepers tend to notice whether the pelvis is allowed to sink too far. Stomach sleepers often prefer a steadier surface that keeps the midsection from dropping. None of those preferences exists in isolation: body shape, temperature and years of sleeping habits all change what supportive feels like.
Start with Alignment, Then Choose the Feel
A supportive mattress keeps the spine in a settled, natural position while distributing pressure across the body. A softer first contact can still be well supported when resilient layers beneath it prevent excessive sink. A firmer surface can feel unstable if it pushes the body away instead of receiving it evenly.
That is why a showroom conversation should begin with how you sleep, not with the highest firmness number. Lie in your usual position long enough for your shoulders, hips and lower back to settle. Notice whether you feel held, compressed or suspended.
The right firmness is the one that lets your muscles stop working while your spine stays composed.

Give the Surface Time to Answer
Spend several minutes on each model rather than moving quickly from bed to bed. Turn over. Sit at the edge. If you share the mattress, test it together. The useful difference is often not dramatic at first; it appears as the absence of pressure, bracing or the urge to adjust.
Use the firmness scale as a map, not a verdict. It helps narrow the range, but your body provides the final information. A consultant can explain how each comfort layer, support material and spring system contributes to the feel you notice.
What to Bring to the Conversation
Know your usual sleeping position, whether you run warm at night, and where you currently wake up sore. Those three answers narrow the range faster than any number on a label, and they are the questions our team in Malaysia and Singapore will ask first.
